Men’s Spring Fashion 2011

Spring is here and that means warmer temperatures and bright, lightweight outfits for men. The 2011 spring fashion trends for men are starting to move from the runway to the streets, and are featuring bold colors, bright whites, and high-tech functionality. To examine men’s spring fashion 2011 Ai InSite looked to Marvin Brooks, Fashion Marketing & Management instructor at The Art Institute of California – San Francisco.

With all of the technology out there, men are dressing themselves the same ways that they are dressing up their smartphones and tablets and incorporating technological functionality into bags and garments.

“Our high-tech world, with iPhones and iPads, must reflect in today’s fashion,” Brooks says about this spring’s new looks and hottest fashion trends for men.

Color Blocking and Pop Art in Men’s Spring Fashion 2011

“Color blocking is a huge trend for spring 2011,” Brooks says. “It is all about cartoon colors and the Pop Art movement of the 1960s.”

Brooks recommends a couple of designers that are brightening up their lines with eye-popping block colors this spring.

&ldquoPrada’s color blocked, wing tipped, espadrille is a must have for the season!” he says. “Prada also has bold jackets in tangerine and cobalt that would rock anyone’s wardrobe.”

Also using block colors to liven up his spring line is designer Raf Simons.

Raf Simons at Jil Sander also plays with color blocking,” Brooks says. “He mixes cobalt blue, purples, peach, tangerine, and hot pink into one of the boldest collections to date.”

Italian design house Missoni is also using bright colors to enliven its spring line.

“At Missoni, there were Pop Art-inspired knits and colorful toppers in acidic colors,” he says.

Whites and Technology in the 2011 Spring Fashion Trends for Men

Using whites and technology inspired bags and satchels encapsulates the more subdued side of this spring’s fashion for men.

“On the flip side,” Brooks says. “White outfits and cross body bags represent the high-tech future.”

Brooks has a couple of recommendations for gentleman looking for some inspirations that are both white and tech savvy.

Ann Demeulemeester designed a strong fencing-inspired collection,” Brooks says. “The models are angelic, wearing white buckled vests and white knee-high boots.”

Also using this spring’s white trend is designer and TV personality Michael Kors.

Michael Kors embraces white with a handsome linen ensemble and sends models down the runway with cross body bags,” Brooks says. “How else will one be able to carry their iPads?”

Honorable Mentions for Men’s Spring Fashion 2011

This spring’s honorable mention for men’s fashion goes to stripes – especially on cotton.

“Additionally, the striped, cotton sweaters are of the moment,” Brooks adds.
